Walk In Shower Ideas: Design Tips For All Bathroom Sizes

Walk In Shower Ideas: Design Tips For All Bathroom Sizes

If you need some inspiration and want some walk in shower ideas for your bathroom, you’ve come to the right place.

Walk-in showers have many benefits. They tend to be easier to clean, more hygienic and more accessible than traditional options.

Accessibility is a particularly important reason for choosing a walk-in shower. According to National Accident Helpline statistics there is a 26% chance of injury at home in the bathroom – behind only the kitchen, garden and living room.

But if you’re having a walk-in shower installed, it’s the perfect time to think about the style and aesthetics of the bathroom.

Whether you’re looking for a walk-in shower that blends in seamlessly with the rest of the room, or one that will be the centrepiece of a brand new remodelled bathroom… We have lots of walk in shower bathroom ideas!

#1 Partial wet room

In the above example, the designers have effectively divided the bathroom in two. Everything behind the screen is a walk-in shower, with three of the room’s walls serving as the sides.

There’s also a window for bathroom ventilation and the screen helps keep moisture out of the rest of the room. It also means that the shower is very spacious.

In this way, the walk-in shower is like a mini wet room. These are more open plan than traditional bathrooms and easier to navigate – here are 5 wet room ideas to inspire you.

#2 Curved corner shower

If you want a spacious walk-in shower but need it to be in the corner, why not consider a curved layout?

This takes up less space than a traditional box shape, looks great and also takes away the sharp corner edge.

That makes it a great choice for a family bathroom suitable for all ages.

#3 Dividing wall

Here’s a style worth considering for small bathroom layouts – a dividing wall between the walk-in shower and the toilet.

When space requirements dictate that these need to be side by side, a dividing wall is a great way to add a sense of separation to the bathroom, with individual mini areas for different purposes.

This is a great option, space permitting, for shower rooms without a bathtub. Here are 12 shower room ideas to think about.

#4 Partial wall

Another striking choice, this attractive walk-in shower doesn’t have a screen but does feature a partial wall.

An interesting choice for a wet room, there isn’t a screen to clean regularly and the non see-through, solid wall also provides more privacy.

#5 Recess shower

A stunning choice for larger bathrooms, here the walk-in shower is inset into a large recess. It almost looks like a walk-in wardrobe!

This keeps the shower out of the main part of the room, freeing up space for a bathtub or a double sink, for example.

#6 Striking imagery

Now, what if you don’t want to change the layout of your bathroom at all but still want an aesthetically pleasing walk-in shower?

In the next few ideas, we’ll look at some interesting choices you can make just involving the main wall in the shower.

Here a beautiful floral image is the focal point of the bathroom. Any artwork-style imagery will always look impressive as the back wall in a walk-in shower.

#7 Bold patterns

For something a little simpler but no less striking, consider introducing a pattern to your walk-in shower. This works particularly well with tiles.

Here there is another use of floral imagery but it’s more of a pattern, spreading throughout the bathroom. There are also chequered tiles, a simple and easy idea for all bathrooms.

As an aside, this walk-in shower has a bench – a very relaxing option if you have enough space!

#8 Darker colours

If bold imagery or patterns aren’t your thing, one of the most stunning design choices you can make is to introduce a darker colour scheme.

Many bathrooms have lighter colours but for a more modern, contemporary look, notice the effect achieved by the black and dark blue hues in the above image.

Other ideas

Here are some more walk-in shower ideas:

  • #9 Colour zoning: To celebrate your new stylish walk-in shower, why not make the floor and walls within the unit a distinct colour, different to the rest of the room?
  • #10 Monochrome colours: A very popular and modern choice, if the above example is too bold for your tastes, a solely black and white colour scheme is also contemporary.
  • #11 Vertical tiles: If you’re tired of square tiles, why not use vertical rectangular ones, i.e. with a portrait layout, not landscape? Some say they can make the room feel taller!
  • #12 No frame: When there is no clear walk-in shower frame, or it’s see-through like the glass, the unit blends in more naturally with the rest of the room.
  • #13 No door: For greater accessibility, here are some doorless walk in shower ideas… Just have a screen in place to step behind but no door, for a semi open-plan design.
  • #14 Full wet room: Alternatively, leave out the screens and door to embrace a full wet room – just make sure the room drains well.
  • #15 Two showers! One of our favourite examples, here there are two walk-in showers within the same unit, a fantastic option!
